This morning the snow has stopped and given way to rain to create a thick level of slush that blankets the campus. This isnt helped by above freezing temperatures of 34. Barometer pressure still falling with 23mph easterly winds. Today is shaping out to be a drab day.

Winter Storm

10:30: 8mph SE winds, sky overcast, falling barometer and 31 degrees

10:45: first signs of snow 12:30: 9mph SE winds. Clouds to the east looked like cirrus and may have been distorted signifying a change in wind, but that may have been me being hopeful. Non continuous stratus clouds in the other directions At 2 oclock the wind speed was 23mph from the SE. Nimbostratus clouds covered the entire sky with very very few snow crystals forming. At 3:15 when I leaft class the wind died down to 8mph, but huge snow flakes are falling After the snow the warm air from the south must have overridden the cool air that the storm was using and turned the snow into rain. The wind direction also changed from SE to E. 7:30PM The easterly winds must of brought in some mP air as the rain has turned into snow again, except this snow isnt fluffy. The flakes are massive and when I picked up a handful of snow it was hard and icy. 11:40 PM. Online says we have freezing rain, but in actual theres little to no precipitation. Looking at metstation the radar shows a smaller group of clouds that look loaded with water heading our way. Over the course of the day the wind speed changed about 10 or so mph, the barometer plunged 30mb, and the form of precipitation changed several times from freezing rain to freezing snow.

Rather chill day in Kewaunee with a 20mph wind, wind chill 10 degrees from the S,which is pushing the clouds that cover the north half of the state out. Falling barometric pressure is indicating that the weather should become less pleasant but with the clouds being pushed out I should have decent weather for traveling back to Eau Claire tomorrow. To close on a netural note the moon is in its cresant phase.

<p>Day after a nice snow storm in kewaunee. Rising barometric pressure, 5mph winds from west southwest. An all around nice day at 35 degrees.

Friday, February 24, 2012

When I went outside today I noticed that it was rather warm (32 degrees) and snowing, although Im not sure why. The dew point depression is 11, which I thought was fairly decent and the barometric pressure is increasing. It was not a heavy fall and did not last long, but as far as my knowledge as weather goes I just wasn't expecting any at all.

Once again a warm day with increasing barometric pressure. Most of the sky today is covered by Stratus clouds. Hope the low pressure system doesnt come this way in force in time to ruin the weekend.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Another warm day, which i assume that the barometric pressure is rising. Also the sun was out with not too many clouds out in the morning. Hopefully this weekend will be nice but with all the snow melting I wont be surprised if we get snow.

Monday, February 20, 2012

Todays weather has been rather pleasant with a temperature of 35ish all day. The barometric pressure has been dropping and that shows with our light snow shower thats occuring as I write this.

Friday, February 17, 2012

Today was very much like yesterday but with a mild amount of snow in the morning. Temperature was in the mid 30s all day. It was a very nice winter day for a walk, to bollinger and back.

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Another day in Eau Claire, but at least this day was pleasantly warm. The temperature was hovering around 32F all day, with 38F as the high. With the barometric pressure on the rise I expect fair weather for the next day or so. Not many clouds today, but the weather forecast for tomorrow says its going to be partly cloudy. My guess is because today was so warm, some of that melted snow is going to evaporate thus giving us clouds.

Monday, February 13, 2012

Today there was a light snow which lasted all day. While it didnt fall hard the snow didnt melt right away and there was a noticeable accumulation. The temperature for the day was slightly below freezing at 26°, causing the snow to be nice and packy, great for throwing snowballs and your friends.

Weather project

Current GOES-East Eastern US water vapor image
This Image shows the density of water vapor in the atmosphere. The darker the clouds the more water vapor. This can be a handy image to predict rain because the more water vapor, the heavier the cloud, the greater chance for rain.

This is one of my favorite images because it breaks down the hundreds of weather stations' data into something I can understand. It can show all kinds of weather effects although non are really present on the day this one was taken, just clouds. The forecast potential is high because of all the data it shows such as pressure.

The chart of the current pressure for a day is a handy tool in weather forecasting because it doesn't just tell you a fixed number like the weather stations but shows you the trend, which is vastly more important. With this trend I can see that the pressure is decreasing, albeit not by very much. If this was decreasing at a more rapid rate I would say we were in from some bad weather, but for now I'd go with a chance for some light showers, a small chance.

The doppler radar map accurately shows clouds, current precipitation, and their movement in real time. The reason I chose this specific image is that there is nothing going on, not even a tumbleweed blowing across and empty parking lot where one child is playing with cowboy dolls action figures ready to have a duel with Dirty Dan.

Still not sure whether or not this weather journal is every class kind of daily, or actually daily so I'll continue to sporadically make them as I go. Feb. 8th had clear sky's, in stark contrast to the previous day in which it was all clouds. Other than that today was still cold with a temperature of 25 degrees and a moderate wind.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Today was a day working on the embodiment of despair. For the entire day the clouds covered the sky and the temperature was around 20 degrees. The barometric pressure has been falling and based on that I am expecting less than ideal weather. You know what they always say "Red sky at night sailors delight, red sky in morning sailors take warning". Well, except It will be more like "barometric pressure falling, better get hauling".

Weather for Eau Claire was mild on February 2, 2021. The temperature stayed around 32 F for most of the night and as a result the roads and walk ways were wet, but not icy. The barometric pressure is still on the rise which indicates that we will continue to have fair weather as long as the air pressure remains on the rise. The air was rather moist with a dew point depression of average 3 F.
